Whiteland opened Friday for practice and had its first race of 2019 on Saturday, April 13th. It was our first time out with our newly blueprinted engines and we had some learning to do. Dylan Fugate finished 6th on the day with the usual amount of good luck and bad luck to make that happen. A needless spin on lap 4 cost 18 seconds which was the gap to 3rd, bu truthfully there were others in front of us that had just as bad or worse luck, so overall it was about where we expected him to finish - we actually thought 5th was a worst case scenario but racing happens.
We did not get enough time Friday after school to change jets and tire pressure or oil mixture to really get a feel for what would add speed. Dylan focused on just learning the track Friday and we tried to learn a little about the engine and tires on race day. We were hesitant to push too much as our primary goal was to run and finish in all practices, qualification and the feature which we accomplished. Now that we have a baseline of what we can expect from the engine we can begin to improve upon that baseline.
Overall it was a great weekend and we hope the night race next weekend will go even better.
